Tufted Hairgrass - Deschampsia cespitosa
Tufted Hairgrass is a resilient perennial grass native to the wetlands and grasslands of North America, Europe, and Asia. Known for its distinctive dense tufts, this grass can reach heights of 2 to 4 feet, making it a striking feature in natural landscapes. The fine, green blades sometimes exhibit a bluish hue and have a rolled appearance, adding texture to meadows and streambanks. In late spring and summer, the grass produces feathery flower heads that attract a variety of pollinators, including bees and butterflies. Tufted Hairgrass is an important species for wildlife, providing habitat and food for various insects and birds. Its robust growth habit helps stabilize soils and prevent erosion, making it an excellent choice for restoration projects and natural landscaping.
